I think that the new "What I'm Listening To" feature, released with msn 7, should be compatable with more players other than windows media player. I am not a fan of windows media player would like the see this feature compatable with more players.

Is this a possibility?

There are various plugins and patchs to do this and itunes and other players are compatiable with the new msn

Yes it is compatible with itunes.
there are plugins which make it work for winamp and realplayer. Just look around
