I have a lot of duplicate songs in itunes  you can show them but is there away you could make it delete the duplicates and keep one song of each? using a 3rd party program or sumin.

i no you can do it one by one (but its very annoying)

You can hold CTRL+Click each song and then press delete
this will allow multiple removal

as for 3rd party tools.. the downside in my opinion to these would be that they cant actively discriminate like a human can..

for example i like to have maybe 2 or 3 copies because 1 song may belong in more than one album i have... but thats just me

for this reason i personally wouldnt want to use these applications as most cant discriminate against that.
       
Most take filesize and filename into consideration.. ive yet to find one that also reads the tags.

If you have iTunes 4.7 or later if you click on the Edit Menu you should have an option to Show Duplicate Songs. Then from here you can delete them.

when it says tags what doe sthat mean, i always get a message on audioscrobbler saying check your tags

Tags are internal information about the song. ID3 Tags consist of Artist, Album, Track Number, Genere etc.
