Can anyone talk me through or find a tutorial on how to use the KSMAS files. I downloaded them but have no idea what to do wit the .php file

just read the "readme.txt" file:

"6.1. Installation:

KSMAS does not require any manual installation. You just have to place the file setup.php wherever you want to install the package on your server or hosting account using your FTP client.
Then pick your browser and open the file. The setup script will create a folder called "KSMAS" in the seame place you put the setup.php script and will store in there all the files needed to run KSMAS (this means you don't need to create a folder called 'avatars' or something alike).
You have to carefully follow all steps. When the installation is finished, KSMAS will try to delete the setup script automatically. If this doesn't happen, you will be asked to remove it manually, since it could affect the proper execution of the KSMAS."

than you need to ask somebody to host it for you, you can ask hobbes, i think he does that.

Without a server with PHP support, or an FTP client, you can not use KSMAS.

A list of Free PHP Hosting Services with FTP support can be found here.

A good free FTP client can be found here.

If you have trouble using them, there are help guides on their websites of how to specifically configure everything set up. Also Google can be used to look up a few problems you may have with some of the terms and expressions. Also you can ask here if you have any other problems.

ok. ihave got SmartFTP but i havnt got a clue on how to use it
im not very skilled in that department

I recently switched to SmartFTP myself and i must say it isn't the simplest FTP client to start out with, but it can do everything you could possibly need. It just takes some getting used to.
