O.P. Modem Doesn't Start

Okay so I have a cable modem box thing....

whenever i turn on the PC and logon the modem doesn't start... I have to turn the box off at the plug and wait like 10 mins for the modem to start up.

It used to work a while back them just stopped

I havent installed anything either

WinXP Ser Pack. 2
NTL CABLE MODEM

check the Plugs are correctly connecting into the Modem by clicking them in etc an not falling out when you shift the Modem, are you using the Modem on USB or Onboard Lan or a Ethernet card?
