If you just wish to eradicate Windows Messenger completely, take a look at
CookieRevised's reply to I am about to rip my hair out over MS Messanger. If you're looking for a more simply solution, have you tried opening Windows Messenger, going to the Options dialog and disabling the "Sign me in automatically" option?
