It is all matter of opinion and what you're used to do.
I agree with that 100%, if you don't like speaking to people on MSN Messenger, then simply don't do it, go and use your own methods to socialise. I am used to speaking to people on MSN Messenger, as it can be a lot privater than if you were talking in a public place etc. But socialised not in the "virtual world", can be very good too... I like going out and meeting people aswell as speaking on MSN... There is definitely a balance there...
I think all people should try and socialize by means of personal contact, but I think MSN is great ...

Msn messenger is good because all my friends use it.
if they're "online" i know that a friend is willing to talk, rather than having to ring up and find out that they're not in the mood.
U can think about what ur saying, rather than fumbling over of-the-cuff crap.
The phone bill/ broadband is the only cost.
U can do it easilly while using the computer.
You can refer people to different things more easilly, rather than getting people to write down web addresses. just paste them the URL.
Rather than stuffing a photo into a phone reciever (this doesn't work). send it over the web, or link to a gallery.
Also it allows for comunities and networks of people to form.

Is this the reason you were asking whether it's a waste of time, s3xy? You can always use MSN Web Messenger, this would be fair on both of you.
Sometimes I use messenger to type to someone who's sitting right next to me - that's pretty pointless. In fact, a whole lot of my conversations with people wouldn't be missed if they never took place. But sometimes it's handy, it allows me to do other things at the same time, and it gives me time to think about what I will say.
But realistically, if I never use it again, will I die? Yes No. I don't need it. But not needing something doesn't automatically make it a waste of time..

No i don't think it's a waste of time at all
It's an easy way to get in touch with my friends and it doesn't cost anything
I find people find it easier to talk to you on msn than in person or on the phone...why? i will never know
Also, it's an easier way to talk to people from this forum, rather than sendings pm's al the time

IM can be a waste of time, it depends on how one uses it.

RE: who thinks msn is a waste of time???
I think MSN is not a waste of time at all, its a great way to communicate, its impossible to communicate with 5 people in different conversations simultaneously over the phone, or in person. But MSN lets you do it, also, its a great place to meet people, even if you are never going to meet them, its still fun to get to know people.
If I didn't have MSN, I think I would be a lot less cultured, I use MSN to talk to people from all over the world. Also, I met Traxor, Stigma and evil_panda as a direct result of MSN, and it was great fun.
Also, I get a lot more self confidence over MSN than I do when talking to people in real life, so I have made friends much faster than I would have done in real life.
And finally, because of MSN Messenger, we can talk using video calls to our family in India, yesterday we had a video conversation and saw for the first time, my cousins new baby.
