O.P. Huh?  service permanently unavalible
ok i was running msn messenger 7.0 when it said new msn avalible. so i decided to download it then now whenever i log in it says 'service unavalible' yet i can log in on my windows computer and on my computer at home (this is my laptop) i decided to download the new msn 8.0 beta and still got the same thing even after installing the proxy. im currently on a wireless conection and yes it is connected. Any ideas? btw this happened before as well and i got so fustrated i just reformatted my computer and it worked however i would liek to fix it without the hassle of reformating it. Thanks all comments will be appreatiated.

RE: service permanently unavalible
[ok, I did not understand at 100% but I think what u trying to say is that while running MSN Messenger 7.0, you tried to log-in and it said "service is unavailable". Then u installed Msn Messenger 8.0 beta (which btw is leaked so then illegal to use except if you are a beta tester) and it did not work. If this is the problem you're having, I'd suggest following these steps]

1- Uninstall WLM 8.0 by going to :

Control Panel ----  Add/Remove Programs ---- Messenger Beta

2- Re-download/Re-Install Msn Messenger 7.0 ( or 7.5 )

http://messenger.msn.com

Download/Install

----------------------------------------------------

Now try to log-in, if you're still having problems, make sure that :

1- You have no active Firewall / Antivirus

2- You're connection is working properly

If you have verificated these, then maybe the MSN Messenger server you're on is down (usually it goes away after a MAXIMUM of 24 hours), you can switch Msn Messenger server using this little program :

http://www.msgstuff.com/downloads/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=88

------------------------------------------

Hope it helps

Open your HOSTS file and remove everything you'll see in there (accept the lines which start with "#", as those are simply comments). The only line that should be present is :
  127.0.0.1  localhost

Since the HOSTS file is simply a textfile you can open and edit it using Notepad.

Your local HOSTS file, named "HOSTS.", is found here:
  for Windows XP: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC\HOSTS.
  for Windows 2K: C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC\HOSTS.
  for Win 98/ME: C:\WINDOWS\HOSTS.

As the HOSTS file can be marked as hidden, make sure you've enabled "Show hidden files and folders" and disabled "Hide protected system files". To do so, go to "My Computer" > "Tools" > "Folder Options" > "View" tab.

Or, as an alternative to editing it, you can overwrite it using pre-made HOSTS files, like found here: http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm.

PS: don't double post. Use the [Image: edit.gif] button instead to edit your previous post...

Please don't link to such 3rd party sites. You never know which version it is, what language it is, if it is tampered with, etc., etc...

To link to previous versions, use the available proper Microsoft Download Center links themselfs:

MSN Messenger 7.5.0306:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?F...-aa71-87184a13ac1c

MSN Messenger 7.0.0816:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?F...-b261-687e0082feb8

MSN Messenger 6.2.0208:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?F...-9f05-1ff3c799bb10

MSN Messenger 5.0.0575 for 95:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?F...-b24a-86edffcdba02

MSN Messenger 5.0.0544 for NT4 and 2000:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?F...-866b-e206a84f0df8

Windows Messenger 5.1.0680 for XP:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?F...-940f-9157a3b3d774

PS: note that sometimes you'll see these links with the added "&displaylang=en" text. Remove that also if you use those links as you'll never know which language the user wants to download.
