I had the exact same problem. I couldn't play any games and I had a loud noise every time I tried playing a game.

The problem was that a small bit of plastic has broken inside the PS2 and got stuck somewhere, causing things to not work. I got a speciallist to fix it.

You can risk opening it yourself and trying to get it out, whatever is in there, or get it repaired.

i have alreayd fixed that, the laser arm was worn out and i replaced it myself and the noise isnt loud

ok, i fixed the problem, but it left with another.
NO discs will be read. but i DONT get a disc read error. it will load then show me the "Browser" and "System Configuration" screen. if i enter the browser, it continuously says "Reading disc..." but never reads it

Get it repaired, I'm sure it doesn't cost much.

hmmm, do you know if Game or Gamestation do a console repair service?

All you can do is ring up and ask?

I'd suggest looking in a local newspaper and there's usually at least one person who does PS2 repairs.

its working fine now. has to play around with the white cog found behind the laser and adjus a tiny screw
