Not sure if it'll work or if it's the same thing as what was previously posted... but Restoration can do what you asked for... unless it's too late.

How. insert the XP CD into drive an reboot an boot from CD an let it pretend youur reinstalling windows, ( when you arent, but then choose i think its called Select R For Repair that may work

Same thing Select or Press, an yes that is what i mean Recovery Console, it may work but then again it maynot, but worth a try

No you dont want to run the recovery console or even repair Windows. It will only make things worse.

to do what?..its worked for me, i used a program called Cleanup 4.0 it was suposed to only cleanup Temprary files an rubbish, but it cleaned up me Startup Menu also. how i recovered from that was i used a System Repair Not a System Restore
