99% Of all viruses are not written for a mobile player OS and will have no effect. IF a virus screws up your player it will be fixed by just formatting the disk.

I've got a Bang & Olufsen TV, a great brand, with a 5 Year warranty for 10 years now.. Oh wait, maybe I should throw it in the garbage since it isn't supposed to last longer than the warranty..

because it is meant to last 1 year and 1 month, hence the last month when it plas up is void from warranty and out of their orblems

Your mate might have been able to crash the player. But any tech guy at the store with some brains would be able to fix this. It's just a matter of formatting the disk, maybe a master reset. Even PCs (where those viruses are actually built for) won't be damaged on a hardware level from any virus.... You will never need to buy a new PC because you had a virus on your PC, same goes for mobile players. You just had luck if the store gives you a new player for that.

I don't know why others say that. Worst case scenario you would need to re-format your player's drive after a defrag. Just like the virus thing.

1 year is the standard warranty for almost every electric device. How long your warranty lasts has nothing todo with how long the actual product lasts. I have keyboards for example that had only 1 year warranty too, no way those things were build to only last one year. Some of them are over 10 years old now.
