It wasn't answered (only assumed in your place), so to help you in a proper way we must know what sounds you exactly mean, just as raceprouk asked at the start of this thread...


Run, what exact sounds do you not hear when your status is set to busy?:

- the event sounds from messenger. eg: when people msg you with a new message, when nudges are played, when you have new (hotmail) email, when people sign in, etc... etc...

- the new sound clips from messenger. eg: the ones you need to record in a chat conversation on the fly by holding F2 and when you release F2 the sound clip is send.

- the Plus! build in sounds. eg: the ones you start with a Plus! command like /swoow, /sevil, /sbrb, etc in a conversation..

- the Plus! custom sounds. eg: the ones you can send to people and people can send to you in a conversation.

- the Plus! event sounds. eg: the ones you can attach to special events which aren't standard in messenger. eg: like contacts change their name, contacts change status, a specific contact signs in, etc.

Be very specific in your answer.

Also, we need to know what Plus! version and what msn messenger version you use. State the exact and complete version numbers (in the form of "x.xx.xxx"). For the version number of msn messenger look in the menu "Help > About Messenger". For the version number of messenger Plus! look in the menu "Plus! > About Messenger Plus!".

Try updating to the latest Messenger Plus! and Msn Messenger versions.

Yes, it's those ones that I don't hear. (I haven't tried the other types of sounds though - i don't use them)

I have version 3.62.146 of Messenger Plus!
And Version 7.5 (Build 7.5.0311) of MSN Messenger.

Edit: Okay, i just updated to 3.63.148 of Messenger Plus!
Still getting the problem above, whether the  "Play sounds when my status is set to Busy" toggle is checked or not.

Then check the Messenger sounds in Control Panel > Sounds.

You mean this window? (accessed through Control Panel > Sound and Audio Devices)



There's nothing about the Busy status of Messenger in any of those tabs.

I'm grateful for the help but it would be more helpful if you told me which particular setting i was supposed to be looking at instead of "check everything" comments.

Hmm... don't know where to look in Messenger now.

By any chance, if you change your status to "on the phone"  does it also disable the MSN sounds? Because that's supposed to happen.

Do you have any plugins installed? I remember some plugins did effect the toast sounds for me
