Does anyone know how to add a picture to the background of the main msn window? i went through the skinning lessons and the list of pngs/jpgs but nothing seems to be there. thx in advance

You don't need skinning lesson for that
Adding a background picture is very easy.

You just need to put a picture file named lvback.gif inside MSN Messenger folder (C:/Program Files/MSN Messenger).

(btw its a little laggy, is that normal? this laptops getting a little old, poor T41)

It depends on the size of the file I guess.

what do you suggest for msn live?

for MSN live is the same put the file on that folder

the same thing... lvback.gif still/again works in Windows Live Messenger...


For Windows Live Messenger you can even make it any graphic format which Windows reconize by default*, but you still should name the file "lvback.gif" though, despite it wouldn't be a GIF file in that case.

The image will also stay in the lower right corner and will not scroll when you scroll your contact list.

* many formats are already supported. eg: GIF, PNG, WMF, EMF, TIF, JPG, etc...
