Sequence of events:

1. Get new nokia phone
2. Install PC suite, works fine
3. Find out there's an update to the pc suite, apply it
4. Find out that now I can't install jar/sis apps by double clicking them and letting the file association take over. I needed to do it manually by transferring to my phone. Big deal, I thought, and I lived with it.
5. Find out there's another update to PC suite and the changelog states it fixed a problem with automated installation of apps
6. "ah, good" I think
7. Attempt to install pc suite. Fails.



8. Uninstall PC suite, attempt clean installation. Fails
9. Uninstall PC suite, empty Nokia folder in Program Files, reboot, attempt installation. Fails.
10. Post on msghelp.net

I've tried googling the error and some otherr people are experiencing the same thing but no one has posted a response in the forum threads where they posted. I tried finding out how to fix that generic error message and came across a kbid on microsoft.com but that only applied to Windows 2000.

It sounds to me that there is a fault with the program try and contact the owners if there isn't then your computer and many others don't understand the program.

Did you try following the resolution instructions anyway? You might have the same problem, and Microsoft just doesn't have a KB article (that you found) on it, or parhaps you have a similar problem, and following the instructions will fix the problem, or show you how to fix the problem.

Can you make manual changes to the registry? I had a similar problem, I never found out how to fix it, a fresh installation of Windows had to suffice.

That program was a bitch to install, but your not having the same problem as i did.. seeing as your actually getting an error, have you contacted thier support?

I managed to get it installed by giving SYSTEM full privileges to that entire Classes\ registry key.

.. but now I'm having trouble getting the PC suite to recognise my damn phone.

Oh well, stupid thing. I'll try again tomorrow.
