i can't seem to revert back to my normal contact list after searching for contact... it remains at the found screen.. how to i return to my main contact screen?

Just erase whatever you typed in search

Click on what looks like the circle with the arrow that will delete what you have typed.

Or

Click on the text and erase it

Or

Start typing again and then delete then text

the problem is that there is no search result for me to edit.

Remove patches if any.

Simply start typing again when the contact list is shown then hold backspace.

Alternately you can close the contact list window and reopen it.

i don't have any patches but still i cannot revert back

most of the method i tried already but the method that seems to work is to log out and log in again which i don't want to

Which version of WLM are you using.
Just re-install messenger
- Uninstall
- reboot
- remove folder in program files folder pointing to it
- remove C:\Documents and Settings\<accountname>\Application Data\Microsoft\MSN Messenger\MSN ID Number
- reinstall
Use this for MSN ID Number

doesn't work.... i tryed that method already..
