O.P. Broadband choices
I'm considering changing my broadband, but i'm not too sure what to have.
I currently have Cable broadband.

I want to know what  service is faster between:
ADSL
Cable
Satellite

RE: Broadband choices
adsl and cable just work in different ways.

ADSL goes through your phone line down to the local exchange, Cable goes into a shared wire to the box in your street.

Two seconds of Google:

Some places won't have cable, whilst others won't be close enough to the exchange to get the full potential of ADSL. It really all depends on where you live.

If you have access to DSL or Cable, you shouldn't even be consitering satalite. Satalite may have decent upload and download rates, but you can loose your signal during storms and overcast just like satalite TV. Also, when you initiate a download it will lag for a few seconds while your request is transferred to the satalite and back to earth, but once your download/upload is started it will probably reach its rated speed. The delay however, makes it feel slow.

The other flavor of satalite uses a telephone line and dialup for uploads, slowing uploads to a snails pace and once again introducing lag.

Thanks for the replies. I've narrowed down my choice to ntl (cable) ( my current one) or BT (adsl). Its either 6mb from BT for £27 a month with a 40gb cap or 10mb from ntl for £35 a month with no cap.
Only factor is the price.

I wish we could get speeds like that here in Australia. We have nothing close (to my knowledge at all) :(

Australia has quite good speeds but it depends on where you live, how much you can shell out and a few other things :P

There are worse places to be in the world (internet connection-wise), trust me ;)

If you go for dsl, DON'T get BT, go with another company that uses BT lines. BT suck.
