I live in England and I'm going to America in a few weeks.

What I want to know is, will my mobile phone work in America and will I be able t use it to phone/text back to England?

I have a Motorola E1000 on o2.

Just to save a trip to the o2 shop, but i'll probely go there anyway

Before leaving the country on your trip, you must call your Mobile Phone Access providers Customer Service to activate your international long distance calling service.
They should be able to do it no problems..and all your calls will be forwarded to your cell ..but make sure you tell everyone they are going to be paying international phone rates when they call you...

I would tell everyone to email whatever they want to tell you, belive me when i say that that is going to be expensive....

Grr, stupid prices. Surely there's a cheaper way.

It's the same price for someone to call me from the UK to USA, but I get charged for recieving. Is it the same for texts, because it doesn't say? How much is it for someone to text me from UK to USA?

Is it a tri-band phone? In Europe, you only need a dual-band phone, but in the US, it has to be tri-band. I remember this from 2001, when I went to Florida: couldn't take my phone, as it wasn't tri-band.

I'm not sure, unless I read the manual etc. which I don't have here with me. Searching google for 'Motorola E1000 tri-band' comes up with Motorola E1000 tri-band phone, or something. So I presume it does?

Triband means support for the 850(or)900/1800/1900 Mhz. Yes, E1000 supports those (except 850). So you're safe

On O2, you can subscribe to some extra services to give you some cheaper roaming, I tihnk its £3/month and you get 40% off. Pay Monthly only.

If your SIM card is not locked onto the network, then it would definatly be cheaper to buy a SIM card from America.

Also, MMS and GPRS are charged at your regular rate back home, so its the same cost to send an SMS as it is to send a MMS.
