If yourcontacts have Messenger Plus! Live then you can use the colourise button to the right of where you write your nickname in the options menu, if they don't (or you don't) you will need to use the IRC code (note: MP!L uses BBCode) which you can get the information for doing this here

EDIT: Btw what is with the poll that doesn't relate to the thread?
