Okay, go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs, then scroll down to "Windows Live Messenger" and press "Change/Remove", now press "Remove" and uninstall the software. Press "Finish" once this is completed and navigate to My Computer > C:\Program Files and delete the "MSN Messenger" folder. Now restart the computer, once loaded up, navigate to
http://messenger.msn.com/ and download the latest version of Windows Live Messenger, make sure you press "Save as" and not "Run", then install once it's downloaded.
