Excel - Time cell format 24 hour? How?

O.P. Excel - Time cell format 24 hour? How?
how can i format cells so that the time is displayed like 17:15 etc i can only get 12:30:00 ¬_¬

what the websites say gives me the same problem. i type 0930 (9:30 AM) and it goes to: 7:12:00 AM

(press f2 and the bar next to functions says 09/01/1900  7:12:00 AM)

hm, i was typing 09.30 (just using the keypad)

EDIT: argh! now ive changed it to time i can't do the maths.... 18:00 - 09:30 =0.35 :S wtf!

on the cell, right click and go to Format Cell
There will be a tab labeled Number (the first one)
select the appropriate Category from the list (Time, in yor case)
choose one of the formats listed. (one of the bottom two, at least in Office 2003)

If none of the formats matches what you want, select one that is close to what you want, then choose the Custom category. You can now edit the format however you choose using the format you chose to customize and the other pre-defined custom formats as a guide

i got it sorted now:D

i was typing 9.30 instead of 9:30 >.<
