ok,I've used MSN Backup 1.7. backed up winks, emos dps etc to my pictures, what do i do next

I'm pretty sure you've saved them all to a folder, back that folder up somewhere, like on a cd or on the internet.

It doesn't do anything other than back them up, if you just wanted it to try it out, then it was pretty pointless, otherwise if you need to re-format, then put the saved files on a cd, re-format your computer and then re-install Windows Live Messenger, then use MSN Backup 1.7 to re-install all of the backed up emotes etc.

ok i seem to have made a mistake, i want to back up my missing emos and winks that i had in msn 8.0 but dont in 8.1 build 00066

Download MSNBackUp and follow these instructions.

edit: after doing this i have got erros, alot of erros saying it had failed and to try later, i dont have 90% of my CE's but have all my DP's and winks just not many of my emos.
