O.P. IE 7. Wrong OS???!!?!?!?!?
Hi, ive searched around to see if this has already been answered, but i failed.

If you remember, matty helped me fix that ibm laptop and now i installed firefox.2.0 on it, and that was no problem. And i was able to install IE 7 on my dads laptop (xp sp2) With no problem other than how slow the installer was.
On this ibm laptop, the version of xp is sp1.  And everytime i try to install IE 7, i get "IE 7.ene-.exe  (i cant remember the file name) is not  a valid win32 application. When i download IE 7 for other operating systems, i get a different error message "This is for the wrong operating system" Or something like that, again i dont remember it excactly. If you want me to post screenshots i will. So can anyone tell me, what im doing wrong, and if IE 7 is not compatible with xp sp1? Thanks

Why don't you upgrade to SP2?

Microsoft ended their support for SP1.
Not upgrading your OS will make your machine prone to possible security attacks.

Gosh, I sound like a cheesy computer technician :dodgy:

Yeah sure thing, im doing that right now, because i didn't really have time to do much on this laptop. Thanks.

i HAD NO idea that they stopped support for SP1. And i thought this was SP2 anyways. Wtfux.. i cant install sp2....... I did automatic updates, but it wasnt sp2. Then when i try to install it in firefox, it said you must be running IE 5 or higher. So i switched to my IE 6, but still lead me to that same page. :S

This means that the file is corrupted.
Did you use the same setup file you used in the other computers (I mean if you copied it via lan, or a usb memory stick etc)
If so, then it means that the setup is not corrupted (well, ofcourse there is a chance of corruption while copying the file, but not that big)
If you downloaded the setup again, it probably got corrupted while downloading it.
Try redownloading it again and see if that fixes your problem.

I don't think that SP1 is the problem, because it would have probably told you that this program is meant to be used on SP2.

You can also make windows thing that you are using SP2 by editing this registry key:
code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\CSDVersion
However, I think that IE setup uses other methods to detect which SP the user is using (like checking winlogon.exe version) other than using this registry key.
YouTube closed-captions ripper (also allows you to download videos!)
