O.P. Shocked  Sony Ericsson phone
This xmas I got my dad's outdated Ericsson junkpile. I have two questions about it. (Q1 requires you to see the picture)

1. What is the model number/etc.???? I've looked on the back behind the battery and everything and googled some of the codes on it but I can't figure out what the model number is. The closest to a model number to me would be the alphanumeric "N173"

2. I did not get a USB cable with it (my dad says when it was in his possession the usb cables were pricey) but i did notice an ir port on the side. can this act as a way of communications between phone and pc? or is it just for bluetooth headsets and that.

For the second one, it will be for communicating with a PC or another mobile.  you cannot use bluetooth with ir (they are two different technologies, both used for communicating between devices but in different ways).

Maybe search through the phones on http://www.sonyerricson.com for you phone, you might get lucky and find it.

I originally tried that, actually. only shows the K1800i or whatever series, plus all the rest. I'm starting to think that once a phone is outdated, all mention of it is deleted.

It's like the internet has a mind of its own:S

Are you sure it's actually a Sony Ericsson? Ericsson were making phones long before they merged with Sony, and I think that is one of those older phones. In that case you won't have much luck finding your model on the SE site.

EDIT: It's the Ericsson T68, later known as Sony Ericsson T68i. Here is a image of it, and I would say it's a match?

EDIT2: According to Wikipedia, it has Bluetooth =/ Mabye that is only on the updated SE one?

Looks exactly like it, but the speaker holes are in a different pattern.
Does that matter?

EDIT: yes, mine has bluetooth.

T68 sounds familiar to me actually...

So can I actually use the IR port as an alternative communications instead of a USB cable?

Your one is the Sony Ericson version.

The one in the Image Vilkku posted is The Ericson Version.
