O.P. Windows boot manager removal
Hi, i had two HDD's, one with xp, and the other with vista. Anyway, i decided to remove the vista HDD from my computer, but the windows boot manager still comes up, asking me whether i want to boot up in vista, or "an earlier version of windows" (xp)
So, is there a way to remove this?

You need a Windows XP installation CD to do this:
Insert your windows xp installation disk, and boot from it.
When it finishes loading files, press "R" to enter the recovery console.
Enter your administrator password and then type "fixmbr c:" and restart the computer.

That should do it ;)

No, since i took out the hdd with vista on it, the boot manager was on my xp drive. Formatting that would loose all my data, which is something i'd not like to do.

Not to be rude or anything, but I doubt he knew about the MBR, let alone what it meant. :S

[OFFTOPIC]
I have lots of friends who don't have a clue about the MBR.
[/OFFTOPIC]

EDIT: And I did say "not to be rude or anything"

I know this issue is resolved but if I remember correctly there is a folder on the root drive called Boot that you can delete and it removes the Windows Vista bootloader and goes back to the XP one. However repairing the mbr is a better choice.

No offence taken ;)
ut I must say I get annoyed at the number of times a format is suggested for even the most trivial of problems. Most common PC problems can be solved without even thinking about touching anything that vaguely resembles something that may be like a Windows disc.
