I have my Taskbar on auto hide and every time someone messages me the taskbar pops up and flashes wanting attention, which is a little bit annoying.

Is there any way to stop it flashing at me when I get a message from someone?

We did search, "alert cancellation" wasn't one of the things we would have thought of

No, I thought it was because the 'alerts' are ticked. You need to untick them so you don't get any alerts.

I think it's a good idea to have the sounds ticked, because otherwise you won't know you received a message, because you'll have alerts unticked.
