I really hate custom emoticons. People I know all seem to have an obsession with flashing LOLs and question marks that are four times the size of their normal writing. Thankfully enough Messenger provides me with the option to disable custom emoticons.

My problem arises when somebody else with Messenger Plus! Live sends me a custom sound (either the builtin '/s*' variety or the newer sound clips). Every time this happens custom emoticons get turned back on! WTF? I know one guy who uses this to his advantage by spamming me with sounds every few minutes just so I'll have to turn emoticons back off again.

can anyone else confirm this problem? I've tried to reproduce but without success. Do you ahve any patch installed like messpatch?

I'm running WLM 8.1.0178 with Messpatch and MP!L 4.20

I don't disable all emoticons, just custom ones, using the checkbox in the Messages section of WLM's Options dialog.
