hello. this isnt a serious problem but irritating all the same.

one of my contacts on messenger has changed his contact name. all my other contacts can see this change but not me. i see all my other contact's name changes but not his, but he insists his messenger doesnt have a problem. any ideas?

Check if you have a nickname set for the contact. Right click on his name in the contact list.

If "Edit nickname" is in the menu, then you have set a nickname for him. Press "Edit nickname" and then clear the textbox and press Enter.

Otherwise you will see "Add a nickname" in the menu. If you see this, then you don't have a nickname set for him and this is not the cause of the problem.

Would this work?  I've no idea personally, but it seems to be around the same area as this topic.

Delete you handshaking policy cache:
Exit Messenger completely (this means right clicking the Messenger tray icon and choosing Exit).


Open your registry editor (Start > Run > regedit.exe) and navigate to:

i honestly never remember setting a nickname as i dont use them! i must have been drunk at the time! anyway sorted now. thanks again.
