Hope I've given this the correct title! But when I sign into my computer, the live messenger sign in page immediately appears even though I have signed off when I've previously used it. I would prefer for this not to happen and merely to  have the facility of hovering over the icon and clicking on as usual. Hope this makes sense! Thanks for any guidance.

If you mean the actual messenger starts up when on the computer then do this:
Tools > Options > General > Sign in > Untick "Automatically run Windows Live Messenger when i log on to Windows if it is ticked.
