O.P. Exporting default emoticons
Hello,
I'm looking for a way of exporting the default messengers emoticons. I need them for my script MyStatus, I'd like to add emoticon support to it.

To get the best images I need them in high quality, for example PNG 32.
Does anybody know a way to get the default messenger emoticons with an alpha layer? I already searched this forum and Google, but I couldn't find anything.

Yes, I know, I already tried did this.
The problem is that list is not complete, and they are stored in GIF.
GIF does not has a alpha layer, so when you use the emoticons on a dark background you see a very serrated edge.

You can extract them directly from Messenger's own msgres.dll file using something like Resource Tuner (free 30 day trial version) or Resource Hacker (free). They are stored as PNGs in a filmstrip.

In WLM 8.5 Beta, they are in the "4000" resource. 202 is a png with the static ones and one frame from each of the animated ones, and 257 to 267 contain the animated ones individually. Not sure about other versions, but they should be pretty easy to find.

Hope this helps
;p

Yes thank you, with Resource Tuner I found the filmstrip.
In WLM 8.1 they are also in 4000 / 202.

I zipped all the emoticons up so it would be easier to download.

.zip File Attachment: emotes.zip (59.61 KB)
This file has been downloaded 242 time(s).

Yes, well those are indeed PNG's, but they are 8bit PNG's. That means they are the same quality as GIF.
I have exported the 32bit PNG's from the filmstrip into individual files.
I've attached them in a zip for anyone who is interested.
Thanks for the help.

.zip File Attachment: emoticons.zip (78.28 KB)
