i have msn 7.5 and messenger plus 3.6 installed on my desktop and everything works fine, i get all the special icons in msn names and everything, but when i installed it on my laptop with the exact same installation files i dont get the custom icons in names and stuff jus square boxes appear

Seems to me as if a font file is missing on your laptop.

What special icons? Plus! doesn't come with icons.

well my brother has like music symbals in his name which before i installed plus just come up as square boxes, so i assume its plus that allows you to see them, i can copy and paste like little icons from other peoples msn names and they appear on my desktop but not on the laptop which i have the exact same stuff installed on.

it is very confusing because i set both pcs up from scracth and i havent to my knoledge installed anything diffrent on the desktop

You can't see custom emoticons in peoples names, not even with Plus! installed.

Can you take a screenshot of what it shows and what it should show?

Edit: you'll probably be forced to update to Windows Live Messenger 8.1 soon, if not already (webcam vulnerability present in MSN Messenger 6.2, 7.0 (minus 7.0.0820), 7.5 and Windows Live Messenger 8.0). This will also mean the Plus! version you are using will no longer work on your messenger, you can get the version for Windows Live Messenger at http://www.msgpluslive.net/download/ (don't uninstall Plus!3 before installing so where possible your current settings will be migrated to Plus!Live).
