Today i installed xp, downloaded wlm 8.5 and everytime i try to sign in it comes up with 80048820 Extended Code 80048416, ive tried all of the first page of googles results went on to the wlm blog but still none of that works =/

Anyways to get it working..

See WLM on Vista won't allow me to sign in...

Edit: I know you said XP but i listed possible solutions for Error Code: 80048820 Extended Error Code: 80048416 there.

Did everything that was said on there, still not working =/ BTW doesnt sign my in on windows messenger either =/

This is going to sound very silly.. But make sure your clock/time is actually right.. I have had several pproblems with this.

Tried without firewall running?
Reset router?
Can you sign in on web messenger, http://webmessenger.msn.com/ ?
