RE: password protecting a folder
You could put the files/folders in a password protected zip folder.

O.P. RE: password protecting a folder
i dont really want to do that because the files that i am trying to protect are actual applications so i am trying to get it at the least complicated as possible if that makes sense...

RE: password protecting a folder
On NTFS filesystems, it should be possible. Right-click, select Properties, then the Security tab.
Can't check, on Linux atm.

What ShawnZ suggested is only works for Microsoft Windows XP Professional Edition. Plus if you are trying to keep someone that uses the same username as you out of the folder it is useless because it doesn't use a password.
