I want to understand how the private status messages work.  When i change my status to AWAY, there is a pop up.  I want to have a personalized message with a name tag and responder for only 1 person, and i dont want others to see it.

So i made a name tag and responder this morning, and it showed in light type next next to my name.  I thought this meant it was a personal status for only 1 person to see, but when i typed to another person, that personal status showed in their chat window.   Does that mean they saw it too?

It's a personalised status - that is, a customisable status as opposed to the default ones which you are provided with (Away, Busy, etc.). It shows to everyone as your current status.

on my chat log, it shows the personalized status in { }, so that means other people do not see it except for the 1 person i chose, even though i see it in other peoples chat windows?

EVERYONE always sees the same status

ok, that is not good for me... i thought i selected 1 person to see it.  is the auto responder only to 1 person then?

no, auto-responder and the personalised status are to everyone

there is no option to select it for individual contacts

are you putting your contacts name in "Name Tag:" ?

that is what will come up at the end of your name inside {} or ()

no, i put a status in nametag, then put an autoresponse.  there is a box with names to check off, and i thought those would be the only ppl to see the personalized status.  i dont understand what the point is to select people if everyone sees what you put up anyway o.o

Okay, yes, if you do this then only those contacts will receive your auto-responder message, but every contact will be able to see your status that you have under "nametag"

the filtering applies only to those receiving the auto-repsonder message

ok, now i understand the whole thing   i wish i did b4 i put up the nametag ............eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek
