i have a full version of xp pro but when i try and install it on my virtual machine it says it's only an upgrade, is it just vm or could it be the disc is damaged, it appears to be in relatively good condition, can i fix this?

have you tried another disc just to see if it makes any difference?

well i only have one copy of xp and 1 upgrade disc but it thinks my real one is an upgrade
i also tried putting in my 98se disc @ the bit where it says please insert a valid copy of windows to see if you are allowed to use this upgrade, and that failed 2

see what happens when the upgrade disc is inserted...wonder if it is the VM software...by chance what VM software are you using?

when i use the upgrade disc it's no different except it sometimes doesn't read the boot sector there for requiring a restart

my upgrade disc is a bit damaged, more so than my proper version,
it even has a slight crack in the center
