I've no idea why, but i get a monophonic buzzing comming from somewhere on my motherboard. I can't pinpoint where it is exactly, but i'm pretty sure it's not overheating, because it currently has one side off and is still making this noise. It has been happening for a few weeks now.
Any ideas? if you need any details, i can see what i can do. i've lost alot of the information though.

Could be a bad capacitor somewhere.

Check all connectors, also make sure it isn't a fan or harddisk (disconnect them, or carefully hold down the fans with your finger).

I suppose it could be the processor fan... My fans are starting to buzz lately

I tried the fan, that's not it, i have a strong feeling it's the HDD.. could that be sole-overheating?

Did the noise go away when disconnecting the HDD?

What temperature does the HDD report, you can check with CPUID KWMonitor.

If it really comes from the harddisk you could try the test utility from the vendor's website, if that reports any error you shouldn't have a problem getting a replacement.

I can't test it without the HDD, because it only seems to happen when booted into an OS.

There isn't any clear notification to whom the vendor is.

42C isn't overheating.

Just the HDD brand? Usually written on the drive itself, but you can probably see it in Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager > Disk Drives too.
EDIT: Or even CPUID HWMonitor reports it.

And 42°C should be fine indeed, my drives average around 50°C.

Take the hard drive out and use a live-cd - either BartPE for Windows if you have access to a Windows CD, or Knoppix for Linux.
