Well, you could simply send the contact an offline instant message. Just open a conversation with him/her and send the message. Then, he/she will receive it when he/she comes online.

Hmm, I don't think there's already some script which does this, but I think it'd be possible using the Plus! Live scripting engine. However I guess there could be some things the developer should deal with, such as the current user signing out when the message should have been sent.
