The new GTS isn't much older than the GT - both use G92.

Anyway, on the CPU market, the Q6600 would suffice for now, or perhaps a E8x00.

Bring on Nehalem I before I buy a new processor...

Last time I checked was in January so you're probably right.

RE: CPU question
The main issue with a top-line CPU is the huge gulf between processing speed and memory speed. Even with the fastest DDR2, the clock speed difference can be as over 2GHz.

To get the best CPU performance for the system, look at the L1, L2 and L3 cache sizes. Go for the largest in all three you can.

I know that the L2 cache of the Q6700 is 8Mb compared to 4Mb of the Q6600. I've settled for the Q6700 cos the Q9450 is a bit too pricey and the Q6600 is not much cheaper than the Q6700.

A CPU doesn't make any sound, it's a chip.

It is the fan on the heatsink which might make sound. And you can get any fan on any heatsink on any CPU you'd like (as long as the form factors are the same ofcourse), especially if you're building the PC yourself.

;)

RE: CPU question
Also if you can find some I highly recommend Noctua cooling products. I've got 4 120mm Noctua fans in my computer as well as a Noctua CPU Cooler and the only thing I can hear is my Graphics card.

http://www.noctua.at/main.php?show=produkte&lng=en

They are worth every cent if you like quiet with very good performance.

Drawn into the darkness here with your eyes on the prize at stake.
Faint hearts on an endless path letting go of the ones we break.
