O.P. Remove advertisment after changing skin
I have a problem

After applying a different skin to the default WML skin mess patch or A-patch no longer removes the advertisment in the bottum of the chat window or the big fat banner underneath the main WML window which is the banner underneath your contact list

Does anyone know of a way to get rid of the ads?

edit the skin so that it doesnt have the ads...

the reason for them coming back is that the skin files have the code for the ads in them (this is required because of messenger making money from it)

some skins do have files that will change options so that you can remove ads though

you open the files in:

XP:
C:\Program Files\Messenger Plus! Live\Skins\<Skin Name>

Vista:
C:\Programs\Messenger Plus! Live\Skins\<Skin Name>

and there are some topics on these forums that can help you to edit the skin and remove ads

Is that Vista's alternative for Program Files? I don't have a Programs folder at all (just recently switched to Vista).

Nope, in Vista it's C:\Program Files\...
...no folder called Programs here either :P

I just realise what is wrong with the reg file

The person who made the batman reg file renamed the file wrong

In the reg file it had

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Patchou\Messenger Plus! Live\GlobalSettings\Skins\Batman\Settings]
"GentlemenMORECORN"=dword:00000001
"GentlemenFillMeWithBBQSauce"=dword:00000001
"GentlemenAGITATETHEHELLOUTOFTHISSNAKE"=dword:00000001

It should have been

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Patchou\Messenger Plus! Live\GlobalSettings\Skins\Batman - The Dark Knight\Settings]
"GentlemenMORECORN"=dword:00000001
"GentlemenFillMeWithBBQSauce"=dword:00000001
"GentlemenAGITATETHEHELLOUTOFTHISSNAKE"=dword:00000001

Fixed it now

but I have another question

There's a skin called wii messenger and in the skininfo.xml file the first line says

<Name>Wii Messenger</Name>

presuming my knowledge is right

I copy and paste the same code but rename the name to wii messenger

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Patchou\Messenger Plus! Live\GlobalSettings\Skins\Wii Messenger\Settings]
"GentlemenMORECORN"=dword:00000001
"GentlemenFillMeWithBBQSauce"=dword:00000001
"GentlemenAGITATETHEHELLOUTOFTHISSNAKE"=dword:00000001

Save the file.Make sure WML is not open and apply the reg.

but.. the ads are still there

Did i do something wrong?

How you hide the ads in a skin differs for every skin. A lot of skins aren't prepared to hide the ads at all.

Lol best skin conditions ever :P

Those settings are only applicable to the batman skin and won't work on other skins as other skins do not ask for corn, bbq sauce or snakes to hide ads.

I have no idea why the skin name is "Batman - The Dark Knight", the copy that I sent to submit just said "Batman". That's why the reg file didn't work.

Should also point out the reason why skins don't hide ads by default is because the skin will not be allowed on the database if it does:

"Skins that allow any of Messenger's advertisements to be hidden will not be accepted. Keep in mind that maintaining the Messenger network is neither free nor cheap for Microsoft. Advertisements are their main source of revenue, just like they are for us."

Some people put in a workaround, but most just leave it up to the users to figure out themselves. After all Microsoft could easily remove ads for good, but then they would have to charge us for messenger so yeah just remember that.
