Windows Live Messenger 9 is a beta, meaning it has bugs. You should only be using it if you are a WLM beta tester.

As you have WLM9, meaning you must be a beta tester, you would know that you have to report bugs to the WLM development team, not ask for help on forums.

Uninstall and download the latest stable version of WLM here.

Well, WLM 9.0 beta isn't stable yet. So, uninstall this and reinstall WLM 8.5 final version.

Okay. Can Windows Live Messenger 8.5 play the signature sounds? If not then I have a major problem on my hands. I've been using the WLM that plays the intro sounds for quite a while now, and only recently it's been acting up like this. Anybody know the problem?

No, WLM 8.5 cannot play signature sounds as it's a new feature in the latest Messenger Beta.

If you're having problems with the Messenger Beta, you need to remove it and downgrade to 8.5 which is a stable version and does not have bugs like the beta version.
