Open you Preferences and go to the "Conversations" tab. Then go to the "Main" tab and tick the first option which is "Add Messenger Plus! buttons in the toolbar". This should do it.

But didn't anything happen after the re messenger

Do the messenger plus icons show up on the contact list?
