how and why have they blocked webcams :(

is there a way around it?

Webcams for wlm? A normal webcam stream? Can you please explain?

Some sort of software or hardware restriction thing? What have they blocked:P

i dont know someone told me they are blocked. im talking to my girlfriend, her webcam can connect fine but mine can't

normally id just think its a dodgy connection and my laptop is being a twat but because someone said you can't use them then i think its down to that. so yes. any technical stuff to get around it would be great thanks

Or is it just blocked over the internet?

Is it *your* laptop, or the uni's laptop?

If it's their's, they might be stopping it from running the webcam software/driver(although I imagine they could only do that if it was a built in webcam or something)

i believe it's port based, you could try something like a ssh tunnel
might have a slight delaying effect on the webcam though

its my laptop. i fink its somnething to do with msns port. i can recieve webcams fine tho.

atm my solution is, yahoo messenger in the background for my webcam and msn for my friends. so fucked up!

as i said, it's a blocked outgoing port by the sounds of it, you might be able to get around it if you use ssh,

you mean ssh tunneling? yes...

you pick a remote host and port, and a local port. then, localhost:[local port] will forward packets to [remote host]:[remote port]. it's pretty simple.
