O.P. How to copy text from a secured pdf?
I want to copy text from a newspaper saved as pdf. It's secured however.
I need this for a school assignment. (I don't think this is illegal since I want it to citate)

BTW: I can't just print it since I have to add line numbers.

(off topic): I couldn't find the button "new thread right above this forum". I'm using firefox 3. I created this thread by using a direct link.

How is the PDF secured?

If it is the case that it is locked for copying you will either have to type it out manually to cite it (or perhaps try the newspaper's website depending on how recent the article is) or forget about using that particular article

Look for a program called Able2Doc it will let you convert or save a specific portion of a PDF document to Microsoft Word format.

I don't want trials, since I want a permanent solution.

If printing is allowed and you have Microsoft Office, you can print it to Office Document Image Writer resulting in a TIF or MDI file, then open that in Office Document Imaging and use "Send text to Word" to perform OCR and obtain editable text.

You may need to first install the Office Document Imaging component, which is available in both 2003 and 2007, but not installed by default.

You can use PDF Password Remover to get rid of any PDF restrictions. This program isn't free, but of course there are ways.

Or, use PrimoPDF, and print to an unsecured PDF ;)
