As soon as i've updated msn messenger 7.5 to 8.0 i was able to select/unselect the option that permit to show all the contact or just the online contacts...

this one on the italian interface:



but now... after just 24hours i'm no more able to get it working!!!



now... no matter if it's selected or unselected... it show all the time ALL the contacts both online and offline!!!

i want to get it working like it was at the begginning: show ONLY online contacts when that option is unselected....

i dunno what i've to do get it working as before... but if i remember correctly all the problems popped out when i messed with this option:



once i've unticked it msn lost all my groups... so i had to reorganize all my contacts.... but after that the problem started... and i can see only ALL the contacts... and not just the ones online

then scared after what happened i've re-enabled that option about "security"...
but msn still keep showing ALL the contacts... and not just the ones online

i've tried doing a system restore...
tried deleting the content of
C:\Documents and Settings\Admin\Impostazioni locali\Dati applicazioni\Microsoft\Windows Live Contacts

but nothing helped me...

what shall i do?

The Show All Contacts isn't to only show Online contacts. The feature is to hide or show "email contacts". Those people who you don't have on Windows Live Messenger but have in your Email Address book.

If you enable this it will get rid of all the offline contacts.

Contacts > Filter Contacts > Online Contacts Only
Contacts > Sort Contacts By > Groups
Contacts > Sort Contacts By > Uncheck Show Non-Instant Messaging Contacts Together.

fixed everything!!

i cannot believe i've tried several system restore and messed with messenger for more then an hour without solving anything!!!!

this is my first day with Windows Live messenger... so i'm not yet familiar with its options

sorry for the initial dumb question!

i just downloaded window live messenger 2009. and previously i used to haide offline contacts. But now,  The menu Contatcs > Filter contact > Hilde offline (show online only)

something like that. This part in the menu itself dissapeared.

Any one else having this problem?

PS: i have latest msgplus installed.

Click Tools>Options>Layout

And you'll see a checkbox for "Show Offline Contacts"

Unselect it
