O.P. Windows Live Messenger 2009 Wont Quit Tray.!
Hello.
I was happy with Windows Live messenger until i upgraded to 2009 version. I never have it auto run on startup, and before this version , when i opened hotmail my wlm icon would pop up and then quit in the taskbar when i closed hotmail .
Now however,  it doesnt, it stays there running and i have to go right click and quit it each time, i find this a real pain.
Is there a fix ? thanks. ;)
By the way i fiddled with the settings but nothnig made any diference, did i miss something ?

To disable auto-run on startup. Tools>Option>Sign in>Untick "Automatically run windows live messenger when I log on to windows".

unless it has changed, when you open hotmail/msn, messenger would open in the background. there is an option/fix to disable this, can't remember where tho, will have a look later

Thank you  :)

Its not an auto start thing.  I dont have WLM set to startup.  Its when i open hotmail WLM appears in the tray  (which is ok) BUT  In the older WLM when i quit hotmail, the tray icon would go as well. In the 2009 version it stays there. ! :(

hope i explained it a little better this time.

I don't know much about Windows Live Mail (Note: Not the online version, Hotmail), but if you run Mail, why would it also run Messenger?

The only thing I can think of is to look in the settings/options in Mail and disable Messenger running, or something similar.

I was wondering the same. I checked Mail's settings and found no linkage between windows live mail and running messenger.
