I recently updated to version 2009 (14.0.8050.1202) and after it was running fine for a while it's now just stopped connecting entirely.

The errors I get alternate between 80084420, 81000306 and 8100030d (none of them with extended codes) - 80084420 being the most common one.

I've tried all the fixes - I've cleared my proxy settings, cleared my DNS and my cache, I've registered every possible DLL suggested, I've checked and rechecked my firewall and antivirus programs, my time and date are both correct, my internet connection is working fine (in fact, msn is working happily on other computers on the same household network) and I don't have any patches running. Interesting to note is that windows messenger 4.7 can connect fine.

So what on earth is going on?! Again, it was working fine for a while and I have changed and installed nothing that might have caused it to stop working.

My last attempt will be to reinstall it but that's literally a last option because there is no install file for this version - i have to download the (seriously) large file again.

Any suggestions are most welcome

Dude, it takes only 15mins to install the Messenger, are you using Live Messenger or just Windows Messenger?
Google the codes on the web, maybe you'll find some answers.

it takes a little longer if your connection is only a 128...

i'm using live messenger - and i have googled the shit out of this with none of the solutions helping at all. i've already looked at the links that you've supplied. i'm literally at my wits end
