When I use "save this image" in contact information to save a contact's display picture, the image is saved but it's very small. And when I change the resolution of the image using some image editor it gets bigger but way too blurry. Is there any way to have both a medium sized and clear image?

No. The pictures are uploaded to the msn servers as a 96x96 image, and there is no way to get the original picture unless the contact sends it to you. Sorry
