Hey,
I believe messenger is far too loud.

I run other programs at 100% volume, and they are fine - so i cant turn down the speakers...

I usually just turn down WLM in the volume menu in Vista, but when i close messenger, or restart the computer, the volume returns to 100% and is far too loud again.

Is there a way in messenger to turn down the volume?

Is there a way I can get Vista to remember what setting I have the volume on for each program?

Too loud? Are you using Messenger 2009, because the sounds in that version are much softer than the previous versions. All the complaints I heard were sounds being too soft.

I have volume cranked right up to suit other programs better... So most programs are too loud (when i listen to music it has to be set at 10% and its still way too loud! )

If most programs are too loud then maybe you should put the volume lower by default and then just increase the volume for individual programs when you're using those ones that need to be a bit louder

I would, but there isn't any possible way to have the volume of certain programs about 100%, so the volume must be set for the softest ones, and set lower for the loud ones... AFAIK

what do you mean?

if the majority of programs are too loud, then turn your main volume control down (and it will stay down), then when you're using programs that need to be a bit louder, just turn them up individually.

You should set things so that they're right for the majority of things, so that you only need to adjust in the minority of cases.

Just turn your overall volume down and then most things will be normal volume......and when you're using one of the programs that needs to be a bit louder, go and manually turn that one up

You're using Vista (according to your sig), which means that you can just click the volume icon in the system tray, click mixer and lower WLM's volume.

Anyway, I've never had that problem, so I can't help you

One thing that you may want to try is to lower the volume of WLM's sound files...

Hmm, I'm fairly sure that individual volume settings save between restarts for me.
