O.P. msnmsgr.exe random high cpu usage 2009 14.0.8064.206
Hi Folks,
Random high cpu usage from msnmsgr.exe.... about once every couple of hours.
Goes to around 30 - 40%
I can find no pattern to the error.
Closing the main window kills the problem instantly, minimising to taskbar has no effect.
I have one pc on XP and another on windows 7 beta, both have the same syptoms. Both are behind a linksys wrt54g router which has been in use for 5 years.
I visited a friend recently and saw the same issue on his machine, is this a current issue ?
I did have a-patch applied on both machines but have restored it back to try and fix the problem but its till there.
I have a Virginmedia cable connection.

Some programs afect others...
I remeber I couldn't use WinAMP and Windows Live Mail in the same machine (Vista) or iTunes and Windows Live Messenger also (but now on XP).
Maybe you could try disabling unecessary programs to se if it works?

I'm also facing a similar problem, but it goes away after some seconds without having to close the contact list.
In my case however, msnmsgr.exe uses 100% of my CPU (do you have a dual core CPU?).

Yes dual core. I'm still no further foreward and yea i'm picking off surrounding programs now.
Has to be something my end else these forums would be full of cries for help. I've only had it once today.... on the xp machine.
I run avast home antivirus.
Might flash the firmware on my router...I wonder if my isp is carrying out maintenence or something strange....
I can live with it for a while, its such a rare occurance now, once every 6 hours or so.

Ok so closing the main messenger window dosen't kill the msnmgr.exe process.... yet it stops the high usage.
So what am I doing... closing the advertisement at the bottom (normally off with a-patch) ... closing my display picture.... closing the actual contact list.
I'm stuck, especially as this is happening on my laptop and my desktp machines... gotta be something to do with the connection.

RE: msnmsgr.exe random high cpu usage 2009 14.0.8064.206
I'm having similar problems with MSNMGR.exe high CPU usage
I have Avast installed with MSN Build (14.0.8064.206).
I tried disabling the services, and associated processes with Avast, and all other running programs.
I ran HighJack (http://download.cnet.com/Trend-Micro-HijackThis/3000-8022_4-10227353.html) This and found a number of unusual processes. I removed these (Spyware protector i think it was) treats and i assume this has fixed the problem.
I'll post in a few days if the problem persists/been resolved.

Problem hasn't happend for some time.. but tonight (possibly due to the weather and no AC) the process was again high on CPU usage.
Back to the drawing board.
