RE: encrypt old msn chat log
That does not look like an encrypted chat log of Messenger Plus! (provided you copied the exact same output from notepad).

Encrypted chat logs always start with the characters "MPLE" and always have the file extension PLE.

If you believe this is a valid, non-corrupted and encrypted chat log of Messener Plus!, then you should be able to open it with the "Log Viewer" of Messenger Plus!. This program can be found in the installation directory of Messenger Plus!.

If you have Messenger Plus! installed you should also be able to simply double click the log file (with the extension PLE) to open it. The Log Viewer will then automatically be started and the log will be read.

Of course, you _must_ have the correct password to open the encrypted log file. There is no way to open an encrypted chat log if you don't know the correct password. There is also no way to retrieve the password as it isn't stored anywhere.

If the Log Viewer is unable to open the file then the file is either not a Messenger Plus! chat log or the file is corrupted (due to hard disk errors for example).

Sound like the 'undelete' did not worked properly.

Not all files which are deleted can be recovered properly. In fact, if you did something on your PC after you've lost/deleted the file the chances are extremely high that you can't recover the file anymore to its full.

The reason is that the computer will re-use space which was first occupied by existing files. Since it was deleted, that space became available again for the PC to use.

Not all programs which claim to be able to recover files are able to do so. It very highly depends on what you did with your PC (more specifically with the harddisk the file was on) afterwards.

Even if some recover tool says it has recovered the file, it is not always sure that the real contents of that file are recovered.

What probably happened is that the space used by that file has been re-used. So what you see is not the encrypted contents of a chat log but some data from some other file (which might have been deleted also).

See my previous post. Open the file with the Log Viewer of Messenger Plus!. If the file is a valid, non-currupted encrypted Messenger Plus! log then the Log Viewer will be able to open it (if you know the password).

If the Log Viewer says it can't open it, then it isn't a log file (highly likely).
