NEVER had a domain name, or paid hosting. But as i need a portfolio online, I need something that looks 'professional'

any tips? suggestions?

nvez from these forums runs it. hosting prices you can see there, and a domain you can get there too, somewhere around $10 USD/year

EDIT: as menthix suggests below on DH, i actually abandoned my DH account last fall even though its prepaid until this fall, and moved to vexxhost. Why? customer service. I have had issues with both hosts, actually probably more with vexx (was a hardware issue) and nvez fixed everything up himself, and moved me to new hardware. as far as features between the 2, DH does have more, but if all you need is to put up a simple site, either will do just fine.


Also, I'm not sure if its still being offered, but I got free but limited hosting from ikhost (aka seany from these forums) after getting domain name.

Do you also need hosting to go along with that? I'm happy with DreamHost for domains and hosting.

But there are thousands out there that are fine too .

use godaddy aswell for hosting.

if you wanna save abit more, then search online for a voucher. i got a nice 50% off a few months ago

Word! GoDaddy is a quality name and no doubt - you will not be disappointed. Of course, there are plenty of service providers offering lower prices, but still... I've been using GoDaddy for past 5 years and haven't had any unsolved problems. The support there is very complaisant. I even got refunded for something i wouldn't thought i would be.
