O.P. 2 copies of Messenger on my PC?
Hello all,

I hope you can help me. My computer crashed and I had to use the manufacturer's boot disk to get it going again. It automatically installed messenger 4.7. When I put messenger Live on the sytem it would not sign me in - said I needed a newer version. So I deleted anything that said Messenger on my PC and treid to reinstall Live but it said I already had the latest messenger. Well, 4.7 is still there as well - I can use it but it sucks - no voice. Anyone know what I should do?

Uninstall Messenger and Messenger Plus!

Then install WLM from: http://download.live.com/?sku=messenger

Is the 4.7 not windows messenger?

Windows Messenger 4.7 comes pre-installed on Windows XP.

Download the latest version of Windows Live Messenger from the official website and it should work fine.

Older versions such as 8.5 will force you to upgrade due to security issues. See here for info.

Well, this didn't work. I went to the control panel and deleted all Windows live stuff. Then I did a desktop search and deleted anything that had messenger in it. So I restart my PC and 4.7 pops back up. I tried to download Windows live from the link provided and it tells me I already have messenger. If I download it, will it switch to the newest version?
